LVDROP uses sophisticated statistical methods to account for the effects of diversity between loads for the design of electrical mains - especially in designing low/medium voltage aerial and underground mains with distributed loading - for example, in residential and industrial/commercial sub-divisions.

The statistical methods used by LVDROP more validly aggregate diversified loads and overcome the limitations of past procedures based on the use of empirically estimated diversity factors. Though the calculations are more complex and rigorous, the LVDROP software actually makes the design process easier and quicker than traditionally used methods.

LVDROP has been adopted by many electricity utilities in the Australasian region as their standard design tool. The discipline imposed on design procedures by the LVDROP software facilitates the out-sourcing of network design work and, as a result, it is used in common by a number of electricity utilities their external design consultants.
